The family MONMARTHE has been living in Ludes since 1737 and has been owning agricultural lands and vineyards. Yet the main activity of Sebastien MONMARTHE and Leon MONMARTHE is carrier of wines.
In MONMARTHE family everything begins in 1930. Ernest MONMARTHE decides to launch his own champagne : Champagne Ernest MONMARTHE. The production is very low and the agriculture is the main income of the family.
Thanks to Leon MONMARTHE and his wife Anne Marie, Champagne MONMARTHE develops and the house is getting bigger. In 1960, the production reaches 60,000 bottles.
When Guy MONMARTHE arrives in the company, it is the beginning of a period of modernization and commercial development. In 1990, Jean-Guy arrives in the estate to rule it with his father. It also marks the arrival of new tanks and the market opens to export market.
Today the house is run by Jean-Guy MONMARTHE, the 6th generation.
From 1930 to 2022, here we are with 7 generations: It is now Gauthier Monmarthe’s turn to join the team.
After studies in viticulture, oenology, and commerce, along with international experience, Gauthier brings his youth, ideas, and experiences.
The Monmarthe house endures!
The majority of the Monmarthe family vineyard is located in the commune of Ludes (15 hectares) – a village classified as premier cru – in the heart of the Montagne de Reims. The village of Ludes is situated on the Champagne tourist route, on the hillside of the Champagne Natural Park.
Another two hectares are located in the neighboring village of Taissy – also classified as premier cru.
The vineyard is divided into 22 plots with 35% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, and 30% Meunier.
The entire vineyard belongs to the Monmarthe family. Seven generations have succeeded each other to preserve this exceptional terroir…
Champagne MONMARTHE is very proud to belong to the great family of the wine growers «Vigneron Indépendant».
Being “Vigneron Indépendant” means working the wines and the vines at each stage, from the creation of the wine to the trading, respecting the Charter of the “Vigneron Indépendant”:
On April 20th, 2014, Champagne Monmarthe has been awarded the Certificate of High Environmental Value for its whole vineyard. This distinction is given in tribute of the efforts and results got by Jean-Guy MONMARTHE and for the respect of his terroir.
Indeed, for several years, the Monmarthe family is working heartedly to preserve its terroir:
This distinction marks time on the biodiversity, use of phyto products and fertilization of the terroir. Champagne Monmarthe is awarded for its safe wine-growing policy.
After obtaining our HVE certification in 2014, we furthered our environmental commitment with the Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne certification in 2021. This initiative is based on daily commitment and focuses on three main axes:
Reduction of phytosanitary products, nitrogen fertilizers, industrial waste. Elimination of winery effluents.
We are committed to minimizing the impact of our viticultural practices on the environment (air, climate, water, soil, biodiversity, landscapes). Over 120 checkpoints are covered.
